This is an incredible opportunity to embody lomilomi, and to understand, practice, and feel confident with this beautiful healing style of work.

ik-ponoFull class commitment is preferred. We go home with reading, writing and homeplay assignments to further enhance our growth as lomilomi practitioners.  Free overnight stay available in Olympia before or after class.  The first and last class includes an evening dinner to Get to know each other better and celebrate graduation at the end.

During the course we will create together a deepening in our lomilomi bodywork skills by exploring the HaHawaiianling Arts in 7 different parts of the body. We will have a session on the back, the shoulders, the sacrum and hips, the legs and feet, the belly and chest, the arms, the neck and face.

We will also explore through reading, journaling, discussion, and art, principles and values from the Hawaiian traditions and how they can help us to grow and deepen our own spiritual and practical life. Ka ‘Imi Pono means the search for right relationship in our lives with ourselves, our family and friends, our clients, and the earth we live on.

We will begin by sharing about who we are and a vision statement that speaks about who we are becoming and working with Ha (breathe of life).  We will learn about responsibility our Kuleana and how to build our Sacred Marriage within, we’ll cultivate our Aloha (compassionate presence with ourselves and others) while we connect and open our sacred well.  We will explore our internal ‘aina (land) and how we connect with the earth.  We will explore incorporating ho’oponopono (to make right more right) into our lives and our practice.  We will sense into our ‘Ike our inner knowing and how to use it to help us have balance with work and play.  And finally we will look to our future countenance carrying our visions forward in balance with the mother/father/child within connected with spirit.

We will have books and articles to read and ponder between each class, journaling and art to express what we are learning, and a lots of opportunity to share in discussion with each other.

You are all welcome to sleep-over in our new bunkroom and guest rooms the night before class begins, or after class ends if that will facilitate the journey for you.

Heartspire Jewelry

I am Jim Hartley. I’m an Air Force Brat who as a kid followed Dad and Mom all overjim_photo the States, Germany, and Portugal (The Azores). I really enjoyed the variety of cultures we experienced. Our last posting was New Jersey where we lived on a small lake. At 12 years old nothing was more exciting for me than to catch newborn turtles, frogs and snakes every spring and then let them go. Dad decided to retire when he got orders for New Deli, India (darn!) and we moved to Washington State instead.

Our business name, Heartspire, is my dream – an inspiration that I hoped would bring spirit to the center of my life rather than the outer edge. The beginning: I signed up for a lomilomi class in Hawaii called “Living and Breathing Hawaii” in 1993. That class and several others lead by Shawn LaSalla Kimmel changed my life.  I began to know myself – with confidence.

Hartley,Kim_logoNEWIn one of these classes I met Kim, a golden hearted angel, silver touch, now my ever lovin’ wife. Before Kim, I was a geologist, jeweler, and a goldsmith with Hawaiian massage as my hobby.  Kim began teaching in Calgary and soon I was coming along as her helper. I finally stopped talking about going to state approved massage school in 1999 and graduated from Alexander Massage School in 2000. I thought massage school would be a breeze after seven years of informal massage practice but mostly, it wasn’t!I’ve gone on to study with a number of other teachers, most centered on Hawaiian Massage or Spiritualism.

My wife and I often take classes together so I share her impressive list of teachers except for Aunty Margaret with whom Kim spent a whole month.I joined her for the last week (I had just graduated from massage school). We both felt honored to be invited to massage Aunty Margaret’s legs after class at her home on the hill. That gave us more time to listen to her stories and those of Uncle Dan, her ever loving husband. I feel blessed to have witnessed their deeply shared love. Today I feel that is their greatest lesson – I embrace it.I have become deeply involved in assisting Kim and Barbara Helynn in all the classes they teach.

I have begun to teach small segments myself but you can tell that Kim still has the greatest talent in this area. Currently I shine as the computer guy – The Administrator.  I send out the email reminders, keep track of the student’s payments and Continuing Education Credits and lend encouragement whenever it seems needed. When it comes to sharing the nature of the Hawaiian Massage sessions I offer, my modesty tends to disappear a bit.

When I give a Lomilomi massage I feel the spiritual side of my being come more fully open, providing the sacred guardian and nurturer as an indivisible unit.  My clients often comment on the safety and great comfort they feel during their massage. They are often slightly surprised at feeling such a deeply altered state of consciousness after the work. Colors seem brighter, sounds more beautiful.

Usually their aches and pains are reduced or completely gone. The wonderful flowing nature that characterizes Lomilomi relaxes the body in deep ways – as the body is largely liquid it responds most deeply to touch designed to move like liquid. Many of our strokes are like ocean waves enveloping a part of the body and then receding.  And they can be light to deep as the client requests. So I invite you most respectfully to come check us out. Try a massage that may change your life too. And I will tell you a story about my first long massage which happened to be Hawaiian massage.  I will tell you the story of a boy sitting on his make believe throne sending rich wishes to the heavens and why the man believes they have all come true.ey’s use of crystal placements in combination with High Touch Jin Shin treatments.  The individual lays down on the massage table surrounded by Rose Quarts Hearts. Jim then reads the pulses to see if any of the meridians are blocked. He then adds specific additional helper crystals and then proceeds with the appropriate acupressure sequence to balance any meridians that need adjustment.  This combination of two modalities is an experiment of Jims that seems to enhance relaxation and natural healthy energy flow in the body.  Jim’s clients have shown remarkable adjustments, pain reduction, and malady improvements and reversals with this process. Occasionally he uses this process as an opening to a full Lomilomi massage.
