Heartspire Lomi Loku: Deep Tissue Hawaiian Style (General Body)

Seattle details and registration

In this class you will learn the art of listening down to the bones with lomi loku, a soft and deep approach that allows the body to guide you in through a series of deep tissue strokes that address the spine, sacrum, and hips in the prone position. Then we will bring the body into supine position and teach the technique of bone washing used with the limbs. Bone washing starts proximal to distal and seeks to follow the bones with a gentle yet deep scrubbing and traction technique that free up the muscle attachments and opens the limbs to easier ROM.

This class opens the door and offers an opportunity to learn at an introductory level some concepts of deep tissue work from the traditional Hawaiian healing arts perspective of lomilomi. You will be able to immediately apply these strokes into your massage sessions and have your clients enjoy the benefits of deep release while feeling listened to within their body without resistance or bracing.

In this Heartspire workshop you will learn the flow, rhythm, and dance-like deep lomilomi loku approach to relaxing, aligning and freeing up the back creating a fabulous and effective session for your clients.  Use of forearms, ulna, elbow, soft knuckles, fingers and thumbs are all a part of this work as well as dynamic and proper body mechanics.

You will learn to give your clients strokes that will warm, circulate, compress, x-fiber, pin and stretch, and myofascially release and free up the spine, metaphysically clearing the future of who they are. Not only will you enjoy learning this work but you will appreciate receiving and feeling the effectiveness of lomi loku in your own body as well.  Infused in the learning are foundational Hawaiian Healing Principles.

If you have been curious about trying lomilomi, this class teaches a full day of Hawaiian lomilomi protocol with the body laying prone including the back, hips, legs, and feet. The strokes use soft/deep techniques with bodyweight and leverage, which include the use of the soft underbelly and the ulna blade of the forearm, elbows, hands, soft knuckles, and fingers. There are also gentle stretching techniques included to increase range of motion and restore joint mobility.

This work is sure to affect your bodywork style and assist in your clients healing. In this class you will also receive a short introduction to Hawaiian Healing Principles including prayer and intention, the Metaphysical Story of the work, and learn a Hawaiian Blessing Chant about Aloha.
