At Heartspire we all enjoy the warmth and ease so
characteristic of aloha and Hawaiian tradition.
Participants learn to work with prayer and intention
setting in their lomilomi practice, thus strengthening
the healing power of the massage and the sense of
purpose
All courses are interactive. All of the classes
involve direct participation through both hands-on work
and facilitated class sharing in addition to
presentations and demonstrations by the teachers.
Students are introduced to Hawaiian healing philosophy
such as the concepts of aloha, ho'oponopono
- right living and clearing wrong doing, connecting with
ancestors, and the power of words, thoughts and images
in manifesting our dreams and hearts' desires.
Although the majority of our students are licensed
massage therapists, most workshops are open to anyone
eager to explore lomilomi and his or her own inner world
with an open mind and an adventurous heart. Our
workshops may be taken in any order

HEARTSPIRE: HAWAIIAN STRETCHING |
|
Instructor:
Kim Hartley
The
first time I taught this workshop everyone was surprised
by how a full body stretching experience felt like a
full body massage. The stretching techniques you learn
will include stretching the fascia of the back, hips,
and chest. Then there are amazing joint rotations that
use maximum range of motion techniques to stretch every
muscle that attaches into the shoulders, elbows, wrists,
and fingers, along with the hips, knees, and ankles.
These techniques are highly effective with
clients of all levels of flexibility and help improve
range of motion and alignment in the body while
listening to the client's signals for end range. When I
first learned this work, I immediately integrated it
into my work because it was so effective for my own
body. Infused in the learning of each Heartspire
lomilomi class are foundational Hawaiian Healing
Principles and the metaphysical story that are a part of
what makes Hawaiian bodywork a unique approach to
massage.

HEARTSPIRE LOMILOMI |
|
Instructor: Kim Hartley
This
class teaches a full-body Hawaiian lomilomi protocol
created by pulling strokes from several different
Hawaiian lineages to create Heartspire Lomilomi. You can
take one, two, or three days of the course. The strokes
use soft/deep techniques with bodyweight and leverage,
which include the use of the soft underbelly and the
ulnar blade of the forearm, elbows, hands, soft
knuckles, and fingers.
Heartspire lomilomi is flowing like the ocean
while using rhythmic strokes as you dance around the
body and lean into the work to create depth and
connection. There are also gentle stretching techniques
included to increase range of motion and restore joint
mobility. Infused in the learning of each Heartspire
lomilomi class are foundational Hawaiian Healing
Principles and the metaphysical story that are a part of
what makes Hawaiian bodywork a unique approach to
massage.

In
Heartspire Hawaiian lomilomi of the lower body, we look
at our metaphysical relationship with the sacred well of
who we are (sacrum), our lineage through our ancestors
(hips), and how we care for and walk on the Earth (legs
and feet). The physical work involves deep strokes to
release and stretch the fascia of the spine and sacrum.
Next are the joint rotations, which deeply stretch the
muscles as they attach into the trochanter, knee, and
ankle both prone and supine. The spiral prayer to the
ancestors is next, which involves a deep tissue
technique with the forearms and elbows to cross-fiber
the gluteus and lateral rotator attachments. Also
included are deep lomilomi strokes on the legs both
prone and supine, and last but not least the iliacus and
psoas muscles.
When
you complete this routine with your clients, they will
experience a new relationship with the earth beneath
their feet, feeling deeply grounded and connected. For
me, the joint rotations are one of the most exciting and
profound tools I've learned in my bodywork career. I
hope you'll feel the same. Infused in this Heartspire
class are foundational Hawaiian Healing Principles and
the metaphysical story that are a part of what makes
Hawaiian bodywork a unique approach to massage. When you
complete this three day class you will feel like it was
time well spent!

In
Heartspire Hawaiian lomilomi bodywork the metaphysical
story of the work involves aligning the sacred marriage
of the mother and father (the scapulas) to allow the
freedom and spontaneity of the inner child (the heart
and belly) to connect with Spirit. Lomi Loku (deep
tissue) approaches the back and shoulders stretching the
fascia first, then deep alignment strokes, and amazing
joint rotations that release the muscles as they attach
into the shoulders, elbows, wrists, and fingers. Then we
open the ribcage, diaphragm, and chest by stretching the
fascia and compressing the ribs. Then we use deeply
flowing forearm strokes to empty out the belly and
rebalance the inner child. The class finishes off with
deep work on the neck, scalp, and face.
This workshop leaves you with a very effective
session for the upper body to align and rebalance the
spine, open the heart and chest, bring healing to
shoulder cuff issues and drop the shoulders into a
relaxed position, release and free up the elbows,
wrists, and fingers, then lift and open the neck, ease
tension in the po (skull ), and soften the countenance.
Your clients will love this work, it is especially
effective for shoulder/arm issues, recovering from
cold/flu/sinus issues, and opening up the torso from
turtle posture that comes from computer work etc.
Infused in this Heartspire class are foundational
Hawaiian Healing Principles and the metaphysical story
that are a part of what makes Hawaiian bodywork a unique

CIRCULATORY LOMI: “LOMI O KA PU’UWAI” |
|
Instructor: Kim Hartley
In this three day workshop participants learn full body
lomilomi massage primarily as taught to Kim by Aunty
Margaret Machado, one of the first native Hawaiian
lomilomi masters to openly share lomilomi outside her
family with people from all over the world who had a
sincere desire to learn. Aunty Margaret is known
throughout the islands as a national treasure. Kim
had the
extraordinary privilege of studying with Auntie
for one month.
This style of lomilomi requires practitioners to touch with
loving hands, forgive ourselves and others, and allow divine
healing to flow through both giver and receiver. This
work is known for its deeply healing and circulatory affects
on the body, deep compression and range of motion on the
joints, and highly beneficial stretching affects on the neck
and shoulders. This style of lomilomi uses very modest
draping techniques. 24 CE hours
